Don't Sweat the Small Stuff (Written 16 Sept 2021)

Precious Beings,

So, it’s been a while since I’ve put my thoughts down. Loss of a precious loved one, events happen, time slips by, hours turned into days, days turned into weeks…….and so it goes.

Today I want to talk about stressing over little things. I’ve certainly been very guilty of this in the last few weeks. Sweating of small stuff got me nowhere but left me with anxious feelings, spoilt days and feeling very unaccomplished & unproductive. So how do

we “Not sweat the small stuff”?

Let’s put it into perspective – firstly Put things into perspective…see what I did there? If you’re in a situation that allows you to get really irritated, just ask yourself, is this really going to affect me tomorrow or even in the next hour? If someone cuts in front of you in traffic, is it really worth getting upset over, being upset for the rest of the day or evening, or even taking that bad mood to work or home? If someone says something you don’t like……walk away, it makes you a better person. Don’t sweat it. Same goes for all our other little irritations.

Then we can “Accept what we can’t control”. There is absolutely no point in getting upset or stressed over something you cannot change or fix. Yes, this is probably one of the most difficult human emotions or reactions for us to control. Stuck in traffic? Nothing you can do about it……just turn up your music or put on a podcast or something motivational and calm down. It will certainly save you a lot of energy. The traffic is not going to move faster the more upset you get.

BREATH…. this is one of the most effective ways of calming yourself in any situation. Even in the big ones. Taking slow, deep, calm breaths has long been a recommended technique for getting relief in stressful moments. It may help slow your reaction down just enough to where whatever got on your nerves so that you can just let it go.

There are so many ways that we can remind ourselves to NOT SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF.

Nip the problem in the bud. Get off your chest in a very calm way your irritations and move on swiftly. We can laugh them off…people poking fun at you? Laugh it off. You are perfect as you are. Why should you get upset over what other people think of you…you know who you are! Manage your expectations. Sometimes our expectations are so high that we forget that not everything will always be perfect…. Learn to accept that.

When all else fails, Get yourself out of the situation. Walk away. Now may be the right time to take that walk, get some fresh air. It will do you good anyway. A fake bathroom break never hurt anyone.

Life is far too precious to waste it on being upset, stressed and angry most of the time…… “we only live once?……No, we die once…. we live 365 days a year..... enjoy Life”

Dedicated to my precious Amma who “NEVER SWEAT THE SMALL THINGS”

Remembering our precious Grandparents who gave us unconditional love and amazing life lessons……..Until we meet again!
